Cross-body coordination practice — article adaptation

1 round · about 5 min each

Inspired by NYT reporting: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/16/well/move/coordination-workout-logevity.html . Shortened, supported adaptation; seated toss replaces juggling and balancing toss, steps replace A-skips, bird dog replaces bear crawl. Omits opposite arm swings. Our selections, targets and timing are draft adaptations, not a reproduction, treatment plan, reviewed dose or publisher endorsement.

The rounds

Adapted movement practice

Rest as needed; time is an estimate. Use stable supports and manageable weights. Stop for pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness.

  1. Standing cross-body march30 sec

Required: Stable counter or support rail. Setup: standing setup.

    How to do it

Stand beside a stable support. Slowly lift one knee as you reach the opposite hand toward it, then lower and switch sides. Stay upright and use support rather than chasing speed.

Draft content requires qualified review before publication. Stop if new or worsening symptoms occur.

Required: Sturdy chair + Small soft ball. Setup: seated setup.

    How to do it

Sit on a stable chair with feet planted. Gently toss a small soft ball a short distance from one hand to the other and catch it. Keep throws low and pause if the ball drops.

Clear nearby objects. Do not lunge or bend suddenly to catch a missed throw; stop and retrieve the ball safely.
